Understanding Cannon Township's Firework Regulations

As summer approaches, fireworks become a popular way to celebrate various occasions. However, it’s essential to be aware of local regulations to ensure everyone’s safety and enjoyment. Cannon Township has specific ordinances in place regarding the use of consumer fireworks, which are outlined in Chapter 232 of the general ordinances. Here’s a summary of the key points you need to know:

General Rule

You cannot ignite, discharge, or use consumer fireworks in the Township during the following times, except on certain state-mandated days:

From Memorial Day through Labor Day:

  • No fireworks are allowed between 11:00 p.m. and 11:00 a.m. the next day.

From the day after Labor Day to the day before Memorial Day:

  • No fireworks are allowed between 9:30 p.m. and 11:00 a.m. the next day.

Unrestricted Days for Fireworks

On the following days, residents are permitted to ignite, discharge, or use consumer fireworks without the usual time restrictions:

  • December 31: From 11 a.m. until 1 a.m. on January 1.

  • Saturday and Sunday before Memorial Day: Until 11:45 p.m. on each of these days.

  • June 29 to July 4: Until 11:45 p.m. on each of these days.

  • July 5: If this date falls on a Friday or Saturday, fireworks are allowed until 11:45 p.m.

  • Saturday and Sunday before Labor Day: Until 11:45 p.m. on each of these days.

Importance of Compliance

Adhering to these regulations helps maintain community harmony and safety. Fireworks can be a source of great enjoyment but can also cause significant disturbances and potential hazards if not managed properly. By following the designated times and dates, residents can ensure that their celebrations are both enjoyable and respectful to their neighbors.

Penalties for Non-Compliance

Failure to comply with the firework regulations can result in penalties. It’s crucial to be mindful of the local laws to avoid fines and other legal consequences. But most importantly, be a good neighbor and consider those who may have to get up early or have pets that don’t do well with fireworks. Just because we are a historic rural community doesn’t mean our neighbors are far enough away to not hear them. Always ensure you are aware of the latest updates to the ordinances, which can be found on the Cannon Township website or by contacting local authorities.

Fireworks are a beloved part of many celebrations, and by following Cannon Township’s firework ordinance, residents can enjoy them safely and responsibly. Remember the unrestricted dates and adhere to the specified times on other days to ensure a harmonious community environment. For detailed information, you can refer to Chapter 232 of Cannon Township’s general ordinances available on their website. Stay safe and enjoy your celebrations!
